As part of EPA’s comprehensive approach to enhance the Agency’s current chemicals management program, EPA plans to use a two-step process to identify priority chemical substances for review and assessment under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). EPA’s goal is to identify priority chemicals for near-term evaluation, not to screen and prioritize the entire TSCA Inventory of approximately 84,000 chemicals. EPA held a webinar and is hosting an online discussion forum to get public input on the prioritization factors and data sources the Agency is planning to use in this process.
To help structure public input, EPA has posted a discussion guide describing the two-step process EPA plans to use to identify priority chemicals for review and requesting input on the prioritization factors and data sources to be used for this purpose. View the discussion guide HERE. EPA conducted a webinar on September 7, 2011 to present the process and discuss the prioritization factors and data sources. View the webinar slides HERE.
EPA has also opened a discussion forum on the EPA website to allow people to share their thoughts online. The discussion forum will remain open for input through 5:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time on September 14, 2011, and all information posted to the forum will remain accessible for reading after posts are no longer being accepted.
After the discussion forum closes, a summary of the discussion at the webinar and copies of all posts made through the online discussion forum will be placed in the docket for this activity, EPA-HQ-OPPT-2011-0516, which will be available at http://www.regulations.gov.
